How to Wear Autumnal Tweed

Hurrah, British tweed is back in season! And this Autumn sees some great offerings from both designer and high street shops, as the romantic countryside style comes back onto the catwalks. When we’re out and about selling our leather satchels at the country shows we’re always on tweed watch, and Autumn seems like the best time to give tweed a try! We’ve picked out some of our favourite tweed pieces this season and grabbed some tips on how to wear them…

First up with the classic tweed offering is Joules, who consistently produce some of the finest affordable tweed on the high street. Their hefty tweed Field Coats are always a firm favourite, but with the sunshine still in the sky we’ve chosen a more lightweight option. This tweed mini skirt and jacket combo look absolutely fab with a crisp white Oxford shirt, a pair of knitted tights, and some brown leather boots. If you’re not a fan of tweed on tweed, this jacket looks great contrasted with a pair of skinny jeans, and the skirt looks really cute with a simple knit on top. With Joules, the devil is always in the details, and this outift sports velvet detailing and beautiful vintage style buttons.

SKIRT £59.95

For the men, we’ve found this amazing tweed waistcoat and jacket with a gorgeous dog print silk lining, also from Joules. Rural style waistcoats are really hitting the mark right now, and this is one of the best pairings on the hight street. Great teamed with a funky patterned shirt and braces for a country-style wedding!

This super-slimming tweed dress from White Stuff is ideal for the office or a working lunch. With a really cute Peter Pan collar and a panel of checked detailing down the middle, this is a really relaxed way to wear tweed. If you prefer your tweed not to cling to every bump, this dress is perfect for a more chilled out smart-casual look and looks great with a pair of ankle boots.

If you fancy a touch of tweed rather than an all tweed suit, we’ve found some cute accessories that will give a little countryside edge to top off any Autumnal outift. For ladies we have come across a twist on the traditional tweed flat cap from Accessorize – this grey soft tweed Baker Boy Cap is made from really soft tweed and comes in this lovely soft grey, with cute button detailings. The gloves are available direct from the Harris Tweed shop, and come with the official label and gorgeous leather detail on the palms.

For the fellas, we’ve found this budget friendly tweed flat cap from Fat Face, with smart leather detailing on the side, made from really cool grey herringbone tweed. And we’re very jealous of this brilliantly quirky tweed bow tie from Topman which would look great with the Joules tweed waistcoat – really funky and perfect for any special Autumn occasion, we think we might be purchasing one of these to wear to our Country Shows….!
